The Roll Up: December 30, 2025

TL;DR: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has had a challenging relationship with the United States in 2025. His dealings with the second Trump Administration have ranged from belittlement in the Oval Office to what appears to be talks stuck in neutral this past Sunday. But Rolli IQ analysis shows Zelenskyy remains a popular figure on social media, even among users on normally Trump-friendly Twitter X. Here's what we know:

Few world leaders would want to find themselves in Volodymyr Zelenskyy's shoes. Now nearly seven years into his position as Ukraine's president, Zelenskyy entered office five years after the initial Russian invasion of Crimea and the Donbas and has worked to defeat his much larger opponent since Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022. Zelenskyy has been a political football in America, both tied to conspiracy theories about corruption in the Biden Administration and as the central figure in the documented coercion by the first Trump Administration that led to one of the articles of impeachment against Donald Trump.

Rolli IQ analysis shows Zelenskyy has remained a popular figure on social media, generating positive comments across platforms. Posts increased in the past week leading up to and including Zelenskyy's meeting with Trump Sunday, but his high positive sentiments have been consistent all year long.

Though Twitter/X tends to lean to the right and pro-Trump on most issues, Twitter/X users are overwhelmingly fans of Zelenskyy, exhibit support in their posts and reactions--often at the expense of Trump. Rolli IQ sentiment analysis sums up the platforms general feelings toward the Ukrainian president like this:

  • "Twitter/X: The posts overwhelmingly criticize former President Trump’s handling of Ukrainian President Zelenskyy and the Ukraine conflict, portraying Trump as favoring Putin and undermining Ukraine. Zelenskyy is depicted as a heroic and courageous leader facing disrespect and lack of support from the U.S. under Trump. Many posts highlight Trump's self-centered behavior, his alignment with Russian interests, and his failure to properly support Ukraine. While Zelenskyy is praised for his resilience and leadership, the overall tone reflects frustration, disappointment, and condemnation of Trump’s actions and attitudes toward Ukraine and its president."

Other platforms, such as Bluesky, focus more on the Zelenskyy/Putin dynamic, once again painting Zelenskyy as the more heroic figure of the pair with a David versus Goliath theme, all while including some hard judgements about his role in the ongoing war:

  • Bluesky: The posts focus on the correct spelling of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's name and highlight the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine. There is a clear depiction of tension, with Putin's aggressive stance contrasted against Zelenskyy's calls for peace and unity among Western allies. While some posts emphasize respect for Zelenskyy and support for Ukraine, others reflect the harsh realities of the war, resulting in a mixed overall sentiment.

Interestingly, but perhaps not surprising, the most complex discussions of Zelenskyy and the world's view of his leadership are found on Reddit, including posts which call into question the motives of leaders across the globe:

  • Reddit: The posts discuss recent geopolitical developments involving key figures such as Putin, China, Trump, and Zelensky. There is mention of closer ties between Putin and China, Trump's critical stance on the UN's role in the Ukraine conflict, and ongoing peace negotiations following a meeting between Trump and Zelensky. The tone reflects a mix of critical viewpoints and hopeful diplomatic efforts, resulting in an overall mixed sentiment.

Drilling more deeply into the largest set of users addressing Zelenskyy and Ukraine--those on Twitter/X--Rolli IQ AI analysis finds some interesting attributes to those posting. While one would expect Twitter users to more likely support Donald Trump and his at-times hostile relations with Zelenskyy, those posting on Twitter/X about the relationship tend to be more in line with the Democratic Party and are often activists for causes on the left.

Using Rolli IQ's Topic Tree, it's easy to see the groundswell of support for Zelensky on Twitter/X. Sample message show several areas of support, including his depiction as a hero.

Similarly, Twitter/X users are quick to praise Zelenskyy's ongoing desire for peace without giving in to Russian aggression.

Rolli IQ's Topic Tree also turns up praise of Europe's ongoing support of Zelenskyy and Ukraine, including pledges from European leaders to continue to assist Ukraine in its war efforts.

That international support is reflected among American users who chimed in frequently to echo words of encouragement from Zelenskyy and the Ukrainian people.

The bottom line is that the analysis using Rolli IQ to look at online posts about Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelenskyy shows support from the left and those sympathetic with the Ukrainian cause overwhelming those on the right who would normally speak up in support of Donald Trump and his lukewarm relations with Zelenskyy.
